This is my first ever blog, post, or comment on here. I read everyone's all the time and don't have time to read and post my own. Well everyone's convinced me to start my own. First off, I started last summer sewing clothes for my 3 yr old daughter.
Isn't she precious? So I made her 20 something dresses, made a few quilts, some outfits for my son. Then I wanted to dress up her outfits by simple little crochet flowers. So I looked online to see about a pattern maybe (keep in mind I've never crocheted anything, nor do I have yarn, hooks or books on how to do it) and I find all these cute baby halter tops, baby blankets, baby hats, swimsuits, etc. I'm like WOW! I never knew you could make all that with some yarn. So I picked me up a couple things of yarn, some crochet hooks and 70 dollars worth of books.
Plus a couple little books on how to do the stitches. Well it took 2 weeks to figure out exactly how to do the stitches. I read through loads of online tutorials from pics to videos trying to figure this out. I started off on the zebra in the crochet for tots books. Well one side turned out bigger than the other. That got put down. Then I started on some hats. First one (supposed to be for daughter) fit her baby doll. Too small. Second one, just right! I used Chelle's pattern from Luv2Crochet. She helped me SO MUCH! emailed me time and time again trying to help me get it right. So off to another book to learn how to make coasters and placemats. Coaster turned out perfect. I love it and can't wait to make some more. Placemat? Well lets just say it's in the garbage right now. I finished it only to find out it has 3 straight sides and one side that is very wavy like this:

Well you get the point. I added an extra stitch on accident on some rows and took some out on some rows. I was getting confused on where the last DC was. Anyways, a bummer. Plan to try again soon. So off to some dishtowels which were also in the book. It took 5 times undoing, redoing, undoing, redoing, finally got the hang of it and turned out beautiful! LOVE IT! So made my grandmother one and plan to send it to her soon. I bought this book 63 Afghan Sampler and started doing a couple of the squares. I really like this one with the rose sticking out so I'm working on that for my daughter. I'll probably make it kiddie size for her. No need in 60" by 75 blanket for a 3 yr old. So I've got 4 squares done and 32 to go. It's so funny, I was thinking the other day how I dropped the kids off at preschool, headed to fabric store, spent 2 hours picking out yarn. fabric, and such, came home, cut some fabric squares and made a quilt for my son. All in a days work. This afghan on the other hand is taking forever. I'm not a pro yet so hour and a half on each square. Hopefully I'll get 2 squares done a day, 36 squares total, almost 3 weeks to complete her blanket. Well I guess it'll be worth it. I work on them when we go to Mcdonalds, the park, in traffic, during nap time, and such. I'll post some pics on my next post of all my work as they are on my main computer.
